charting a course I’ve recently been reading What We Owe the Future by William MacAskill. It’s my first foray into works related to effective altruism (EA), and also my first introduction to longtermism. Intuitively, the math-based approach EA takes to making a positive impact is very compelling, and yet I remain curious about sorts of best and worst case results. Here, I attempt to place mathematical bounds on utility produced from various scenarios centered around EA.
